Projects Overview

A way to give back to communities in need

AMERICA MECKHE ASSOCIATION, INC. (AMA, INC) is a US based Nonprofit Organization created exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes.
The organization is dedicated to providing general aid, support and assistance to the population of Meckhe and its surrounding rural suburbs.
Meckhe is a commune in Senegal (The Country), which is located in the north-west of the country, between Dakar and Saint-Louis. It lies in the Department (county) of Tivaouane within the region of Thiès. Its population is estimated to be around 30,000 habitants. The economic activities are centered on agriculture, handicrafts, commerce and cattle breeding. Meckhe is known for its arts
and craft industry.

AMA members are all volunteers. Membership is opened to anyone that has a big heart and is willing to help enhance the well being of people who are less fortunate.
AMA’s mission focuses in social, health, environmental, and education issues. Its activities are
financed through membership fees, donations, and fund-raising events.
AMA has completed or is currently engaged in many projects. To name a few:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has distributed face masks, hand sanitizers
and many cleaning items to people in need.

Most recently, AMA has provided 4 hospital beds to a local maternity hospital that desperately
needed them. This was a significant contribution of the organization to improving women’s
health

Ama has also provided the commune with 14 computers that were distributed to the local high
school, the fire house, the law enforcement authorities and some community-based
organizations.
AMA is currently engaged in an active project of building toilets in two elementary schools that
do not have properly functioning toilets. This project is estimated to cost 7 857 580 CFA (CFA =
local currency) (about $14,000 in current exchange rate). Constructions have already started at
the first school and the project is expected to be completed by June of 2023, before the end of the
current school year. These toilets, when completed will improve significantly the learning
conditions of 700 children that are currently attending the two schools selected.
AMA’s members are tirelessly working to identify problems they can help resolve in the sole
goal of giving back to communities in need to help them improve their living conditions. We are
inviting everyone to join our efforts or to land a helping hand in any way possible.
